When you serve with others during an Impact PA project, you’re not just lending a hand—you’re building community. One of our values at LCBC is making it personal because we believe that knowing someone’s story helps us see them the way God does: someone with a story that deserves to be heard and gifts that deserve to be honed and utilized. And that all starts with a conversation!
At Impact PA, you might be serving alongside people you don’t usually see or even meeting someone for the very first time. So, how do you break the ice? Here are some simple, thoughtful questions you can ask to get to know the people around you:

Keeping the conversation going!
Starting a conversation is just the beginning. The real connection happens when you make it personal by showing interest in someone’s story. Here are a few tips:
- Ask follow-up questions: If someone shares that they’re serving for the first time, you could ask, “What inspired you to jump in?” or “How’s it going so far?” This shows you’re genuinely interested.
- Look for common ground: If you both love hiking or have kids the same age, use that as a bridge to keep chatting. Swap your favorite hiking trails or find out if your kids like the same tv shows!
- Share a little about yourself: Sometimes, offering a bit of your own story makes the other person feel more comfortable opening up.
- Remember their name: It sounds simple, but it matters. If you forget, don’t be afraid to ask again. It shows you care enough to remember!
When you take the time to connect, you’re not just making the project more enjoyable—you’re living out the heart of who we are as a church and making it personal, one conversation at a time!
