We can all admit that we want guidance in many areas of our lives.
We can also admit that we would love to have deep convictions about specific decisions or choices in our lives. Or the assuredness of someone looking out for them and guiding them in the paths that they should take.
In today's world, with so much distraction, a culture of uninformed opinions, short-lived reactions to hot button issues, and the lack of ongoing action required to address the issues in our lives and culture; it can feel impossible to find the guidance we are looking for.
God knows us and knows we need the guidance we crave. That's why Jesus told us he would give us his presence in our lives daily.
In John 16, Jesus said, "But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going. Instead, you grieve because of what I've told you. But in fact, it is best for you that I go away because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.
Jesus, as He was preparing to die, made sure that we knew there would be a spirit, a voice, a presence, a nudge – someone to push us or pull us in the right direction with the convictions in our lives.
In verse 13, Jesus said, "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
The Holy Spirit is that guide. You are not alone!
Jesus called us to be guided daily by God's word, and that moment by moment, we would feel the convictions from the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is not for perfect people or holy people; he’s for us. The ones who are still figuring it out.
Being open to God's spirit is a discipline that you start mid-story. A discipline you keep trying after failing again and again.
Life is difficult and will continue to be difficult, and just because things are difficult in your life doesn't mean God has left you.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your convictions thoroughly is often challenging – but there is something about being grounded by a presence more significant than yourself that is freeing.
