Read:

Sometimes you don't choose to stop trusting God. Something painful happens, and your trust in him breaks with it.

Psalm 22 opens from a place of darkness: "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help?" (Psalm 22:1, NLT). Jesus prayed these same words from the cross. Carrying the sin of the world, he didn't go silent or turn his back on the Father. He named the pain out loud and still called him "my God." Even in what felt like abandonment, he held on to the relationship.

If something has broken your trust in God, that pain is real. But don’t let yourself get stuck there. This is when you need to hold even tighter to your relationship with God, and to who he is. Neither of these things change when life falls apart, and holding on to both is how you start moving through it.

Before you close this, write down what broke your trust in God. Naming it puts light on it, and healing starts with being honest about what happened.

Pray: God, you know what broke my trust in you. I don't want to stay stuck in the dark. Help me hold on to you and to who you are, even when I don't understand. Lead me through this. Amen.
